OLEAN — Olean firefighters responded to a 911 call Monday afternoon of a home on South 16th Street with heavy fire throughout the first floor.
“Multiple lines were placed in service to bring the fire under control,” said Fire Chief Eric Maurouard of the house at 116 S.16th St. It was reported at 1:51 p.m.
“A search for any victims was completed, and no victims were found,” Maurouard said. “One dog perished in the fire.”
The chief said there was significant fire extension in the stud channels, which required ventilation of the roof and
opening of the walls and soffits.
One firefighter, who was not identified, was sent to Olean General for a medical evaluation.
The cause of the fire, which caused extensive damage to the house, is under investigation, Maurouard said.
