October 1, 1935 – January 2, 2025
Steven D. Szabo {István Szabó}, 89, of Coldspring Rd, Randolph, passed away on Thursday (January 2, 2025) at home.
He was born October 1, 1935 in Komárom, Hungary, as the son of the late Gergely and Rozalia Farkas Szabo Sr.
In his childhood, thefamily had lived in Komárom, Hungary and later on they moved to Budapest. While his father worked as a baker, his mother took care of the children with loads of love. He helped his father a lot in the bakery, whenever it was needed. He loved to play football (Soccer) and really enjoyed hiking with his friends in the mountains of Buda. Even at that time he was a cheerful, direct youngster with a good sense of humour and he kept this personality throughout his life. In Újpest –the fourth district of Budapest- he is still remembered by the people of his age.
Prior to coming to the United States at the age of 21, he trained as a Tool & Die Maker. He moved to the US during the revolution in Hungary when plenty of other youngsters tried their luck abroad.
Steve owned and operated Szabo Precision tool and die in Garden Grove California for 12 years, with his wife Flora as his partner. His quality of work was exceptional and was admired by his customers as he always tried to respect all their needs.
At one time he used to play football (Soccer) on local teams in Hungary, he also attended a Hungarian church and he loved dancing, luckily Flora also enjoyed square dancing, and they won many competitions in New Jersey where they met, and later after moving to California. They eventually moved back to the East Coast so Flora could live closer to her family when they retired.
He loved people and animals in general, and he especially loved dogs and hummingbirds. He also enjoyed bowling with his friends. He kept in touch with the Hungarian relatives via phone and Skype.
He is survived by a step-son Raymond Szabo Salem of Oregon, 5 granddaughters, and a younger sibling, Gergely Jr.
He was preceded in death by his wife; Flora Irene Oakes Szabo, and siblings of Rozalia and Magdolna. His memory will live forever in our hearts.
As per Steven’s wishes, there will be no services held. Inurnment will be in the Randolph Cemetery. Steven is mourned by the whole Szabo family and his younger sibling, Gergely Jr. and his family, as well as all of his relatives in Hungary.
