Tuesday Roundup: Portville girls lose to Randolph; Salamanca boys, girls wrestling split trip to Gowanda

RANDOLPH, NY – Facing an explosive offense, the Portville girls’ basketball failed to keep stride with Randolph, suffering their third loss of the year with a 69-31 defeat.

While the Lady Cardinals got hot early, the Lady Panthers would struggle out of the gates. Following a first quarter that saw Portville be outscored by 13, the game begin to snowball from there. Unable to stop Randolph’s shooters, especially Skylar Herington who would knock down four 3-pointers and end with 30 points, Portville’s chances of pulling off a comeback quickly slipped out of reach. 

Emma Rhinehart would end with a team-high 14 points while Ali Haynes would score seven points in the loss.

Boys Volleyball

Portville 3, Arkport 0

The Panthers added another win to their flawless season with a sweep of the Blue Jays, winning 25-21, 25-23 and 25-22.

Abe Cook recorded 13 kills and 14 digs in the win while Brady German had 10 kills, two aces and 26 digs. Chase Armstrong had eight kills and Garrett Reynolds had 11 digs. Running the offense, Colin German ended with 36 assists alongside six kills.

Boys Wrestling

Gowanda 53, Salamanca 17

Traveling to Gowanda, the Salamanca boys’ wrestling team faced a tough opponent in the Panthers. However, the Warriors were in just about every match of the night.

Winning matches for Salamanca was Thomas George with a 12-4 major decision, Kasen Hardy with a 5:25 pin, Wyatt Bialaszewski 7-0 decision and Conner Seeley with a 12-4 major decision.

The Warriors Wrestling team will compete next, Wednesday, Jan. 8 at home beginning at 6:30 pm.

Girls Wrestling

Frewsburg 25, Salamanca 15; Salamanca 20, Gowanda 20

On Monday, the first ever Salamanca Girls Varsity Team traveled to Gowanda to compete in a pair of dual meets against Frewsburg and Gowanda.

Salamanca lost to Frewsburg 25 to 15, with wins by Maelonnee Bacelli, Rhiannon Chase and Ari Acosta.

Salamanca won its first ever dual meet against Gowanda, 20 to 15, with wins by Maelonnee Bacelli and Madison Mohr, and significant wins by way of pin by Aaliyah Winship and Kendra Bova-Redeye.
