Salamanca Indoor Track and Field
LOCKPORT NY – On Saturday, the Salamanca throwers took the long trip to Lockport for a shot put invitational to get a few of their rookies some experience in the circle.
Although veterans Aubrey Domres and Evan Spruce didn’t throw their best this weekend, it was their leadership that led the way. Domres was extremely consistent in her throws, all around her second best distance. Each attempt was an improvement.
“This consistency was key. Aubrey spent a good portion of the competition serving as a peer coach to three rookie Lady Warriors,” said Salamanca head coach Michelle Hill. “She has the ability to recognize where there can be small modifications in technique to improve the performance. Her direction is simple and compassionate toward her teammates and boy did they respond.”
Freshman Corey Day earned her first personal record of 16-02. Sophomores Jaelynn Cooper and Kylynn Day have already left their mark earning PRs and spots on the school’s top ten. Cooper earned the No. 10 spot with a throw of 20-01.50 and Day is in the No. 6 spot with a throw of 23-03.50.
“I think it’s safe to say that they won’t be staying in those spots for very long,” said Hill. “All five athletes made us incredibly proud, of not only their performances but their unselfish support of one another. It was a great day for the red and gray.”

Salamanca – Section VI Small School Team Dual Championships
On Saturday, the Salamanca boys wrestling team competed in their first ever Section VI Small School Team Dual Championships. The Warriors went into the tournament as the eighth seed and took on No. 1 seed Chautauqua Lake, who ended up beating Newfane in the finals to become 2025 Section 6 team champions, finishing with a loss of 12-65.
Winning matches for Salamanca was Thomas George by pin and Wyatt Bialaszewski with a forfeit.
In the first round of the consolation bracket, the Warriors wrestled Falconer who finished third. Falconer won that match by a score of 9-65. Winners for Salamanca were Kasen Hardy with a 19-4 technical fall and Wyatt Bialaszewski with a 12-4 major decision.
Although exhibition, Jack Merrill earned a win this weekend as well.
“To look at the scores it looked like a complete blow out but we were in a lot of these matches and wrestled very tough for a young, inexperienced team,” said Salamanca head coach Keith Jones.
The Warriors will compete next week on Monday at Gowanda and on Wednesday at home against Maple Grove for dual meets.
Girls Wrestling
MAYVILLE, NY – On Friday, the Salamanca girls’ varsity wrestling team traveled to take part in the Chautauqua Lake Invitational. Competing against 18 other teams, the Lady Warriors battled throughout the one-day meet.
