PORTVILLE, NY – Fresh off of winning yet another state championship in volleyball, the duo of Ali Haynes and Emma Rhinehart teamed up once again to lead the Portville girls’ volleyball season to a winning start, defeating Cuba-Rushford 49-38.
The Lady Panthers came out of the gates warmed up. Pushing the pace early with Haynes scoring six and Ava Jo Edwards knocking down a pair of 3-pointers, Portville built up a lead early. However, C-R would respond in the following two quarters to knot the game at 31 heading into the fourth.
With the game on the line, Rhinehart took over. Although she had been relatively quiet up to this point, only scoring three points in three quarters, Rhinehart drilled a pair of triples as well as a shot inside and at the charity stripe. Leading the charge, she carried the Lady Panthers to their first win of the season, outscoring C-R by 18-7 in the fourth quarter.
Haynes ended with 17 points while Rhinehart tallied 15. Edwards recorded eight points in the season-opening win.
