Wai-Yung Chan Young Allegany, NY Wai-Yung Chan Young, 103, of Allegany, passed away Monday (October 21, 2024) at the Olean General Hospital after a blessed and fruitful life.
She was born on April 7, 1921 in Hong Kong, China and was the daughter of So H. Chan and Pat Leung. On August 15, 1946 in China, she married Kee Young who predeceased her in Olean on April 30, 1990.
Wai was a wife, mother and grandmother who raised her family and supported them in a loving, supportive manner. She followed the religious beliefs of Buddha and faithfully worshipped the Goddess of Mercy.
She enjoyed many family gatherings, and especially liked to play the Chinese game of Mahjong, one of the country’s more popular board games.
She leaves behind 3 children, Wai Ming “David” (Yee C.) Young, and Eddie (Lydia) Young, both of Allegany, and Yung Yee (Michael) Chan of San Francisco, CA; 6 grandchildren, Melissa (Derek) MacPherson, Steven Young, Albert Young, Kami (Major) Pierce, Aaron (Jane) Young, and Josephine Chan, and 3 great grandchildren, Brooklynn Pierce, Major Pierce, and Isabelle D. Young.
The family welcomes friends to a visitation on Saturday (November 2, 2024) from 11am to 1pm at the Casey, Halwig & Hartle Funeral Home, 3128 W. State Rd., Olean.
A funeral service will begin at 1pm in the funeral home, followed by burial next to her husband in the Allegany Cemetery.
Memorials may be made to a charity of the donor’s choice.
