Versailles – Myrton R. Sprague, 87, of Versailles, passed away Monday, October 21, 2024 at Brooks Hospital in Dunkirk. He was born on September 4, 1937 at the family homestead on Versailles Rd., son of the late Edward L. and Isabelle (Snyder) Sprague. A Gowanda High School graduate, class of 1956, Mr. Sprague would further his education at Alfred University and would also later join the US Navy having served as a destroyer escort on the USS Jack W. Wilkee. On June 6, 1959, at the Immanuel Lutheran Church in Gowanda, he married the former Marjorie Harvey, who survives.

For many years, Myrton proudly owned and operated Sprague’s Dairy and Grape Farm on Versailles Rd. He was a member of the National Grape Co-Op for over 50 years as well as the Dairy Lee Milk Co-Op. He also served on the Perrysburg Town Board for 22 years as well as Town of Perrysburg Supervisor for 12 years. His faith and membership at Immanuel Lutheran Church in Gowanda were steadfast, holding many church positions such as Trustee, Head Elder, Vice President and President throughout his over 50 years of membership.

Besides his loving wife of over 65 years, Myrton is survived by a daughter, Diane (Wesley) Suraf of Perrysburg, and two sons; Daniel (Jane) Sprague of Irving, and William (Charisse) Sprague of Keystone Heights, FL.

Also surviving are seven grandchildren; Melissa Sprague, Steven Suraf, Daniel (Michele) Sprague Jr., Jessica (Dale) LaChausse, Devon (Megan) Sprague, Damen (Dani) Sprague, and Tianna (Stephen) Kiener. He is also survived by nine great-grandchildren ; Dominic and Bailey Suraf, Sophia and Trevor LaChausse, Michaela, Kylee, and Mora and Macie Sprague, and Lucius Kiener, as well as several nieces and nephews.

Besides his parents, Myrton is predeceased by two brothers; Edward Sprague Jr., and Kenneth Sprague, as well as two sisters; Evelyn Maines, and Ruth Westlund.

Funeral services will be held on Saturday, October 26, 2024 at 11 am from Immanuel Lutheran Church of Gowanda.

Burial will be in Versailles Cemetery.

In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to the Immanuel Lutheran Church 40 S. Chapel St. Gowanda, NY 14070.

Arrangements are under the direction of Mentley Funeral Home Inc., 105 East Main St. in Gowanda.
