Ellicottville shut out Timberwolves on Senior Night; Portville secures league title, Bradford closes season with win

ELLICOTTVILLE, NY – On a night paying homage to their seniors, the Ellicottville girl’s soccer team gave their fans a showcase in skill, dominating Cattaraugus-Little Valley in a shutout 7-0 victory.

The first goal of the night came from Drew Ficek, who punched one in just four minutes into the game. After the blitz, both teams stalled out and for the remainder of the half, the scoreboard remained unchanged.

Coming into the second, however, there would be an avalanche of offense from the Eagles that would seal their win. It started with Makayla Potter’s goal in the 41st minute which was followed by one from Julianna O’Connell two minutes later. After another extended lull, Ficek got her second goal which sparked an onslaught from the Lady Eagles. In the next six minutes, Ellicottville punched in three more nails to the Lady Timberwolves coffin. Two came from Addison John with the third being scored by O’Connell.

Assists came from Ady Andrews, Ficek, Harper Klein, Juleana Lyon and John. In the net Courtney March stopped all six shots she faced.

Bradford 5, Warren 2

BRADFORD, PA – The Lady Owls capped off their regular season with a win over the Lady Dragons, sweeping the season series as they eye another District 9 Class 4A Championship run.

Through the first half, Warren was able to keep up with the Lady Owls. After Bradford’s Alyssa Mangold punched in a goal in the 17th minute, the Lady Dragons responded nearly seven minutes later. Bradford would get one more before the half, with Liv Niermann scoring in the 31st minute.

Heading into the second half, Mangold would get her second score of the game just eight minutes after the tip. Ten minutes later, she would complete the hat trick to put the Lady Owls up 4-1 before tacking on her fourth in the 69th minute. Finally, Warren would get one more silver-lining goal with just six minutes left on the clock.

Mangold ended with four goals and one assist while Niermann had one goal. Maddy Rimer and Bella Prince both tallied two assists each in the win.

Portville 0, Randolph 0

PORTVILLE, NY – Despite leaving without a win, the Lady Panthers were able to secure a CCAA Division 1 league title in a draw against the Lady Cardinals.

In goal, Portville’s Sarah Smith had nine saves while Randolph’s Bella Morales had four.

“We played a gritty game tonight coming 24 hours after a hard fought win,” said Portville head coach Mike Matz. “Like everyone else, we’re dealing with some injuries and illness and again we pressed some people into roles they’re not necessarily accustomed to, but they rose to the challenge.”

Falconer 3, Olean 0

OLEAN, NY – A sudden collapse in the second half left the Lady Huskies all too vulnerable as they quickly let up goals and the lead, sinking Olean in their final game of the season.

For 60 minutes, the Lady Huskies held Falconer scoreless. However, in just seven minutes, the Lady Golden Eagles took advantage of a sudden lapse and punched in three goals, securing the win.

In goal, Olean’s Emma Edwards recorded 20 saves.
