WELLSVILLE — The 32nd annual Wellsville Ridge Walk & Run kicks off Sunday morning at Wellsville Central School, 126 W. State St. It is sponsored by UR/Wellsville Memorial Hospital.
Hundreds of people of all ages will be participating in the 5K, 10K and 25K runs and 2, 6 and 9-mile walks plus a 25K walk designed to promote wellness. Online registration is available at ridgewalk.com/walk-run/
Get ready for a workout. The trails are on a picturesque horse farm in a valley below the highest elevation in Western New York. Some of the trails climb 800 feet in altitude.
Be sure to carry a water bottle to stay hydrated. There are six aid stations along the trails that are described as wild, remote and challenging.
Ridge Walk officials are reaching out this year for participants from beyond Allegany County, said Rich Shear. There are a record number of sign-ups so far.
Shear said. Organizers are shooting for 800 runners and walkers.
Shear said organizers are hoping a number of Cattaraugus County residents will take advantage of the warmer weather this weekend and participate in the Ridge Walk & Run.
Participants will travel across beautiful trails along linked parcels of privately owned land for a one of a kind event.
Funds raised will be used to support local initiatives that encourage health and wellness.
A varied pallet of walking and running distances will appeal to every fitness level and remains the area’s premier family outdoor fall event.
