Junior Elton Carlson, loving husband, father, and grandfather

Humphrey-Junior Elton Carlson, of Humphrey, passed away peacefully Friday, October 11, 2024 at home, surrounded by his loving family after a short illness.

Junior was born in West Clarksville on August 3, 1930, he was the son of the late Elton and Emma Williams Carlson. He married the former Mary Pockalny, who predeceased him. On March 1, 2006, in Las Vegas, NV, he married the former Carmen Washburn, who survives.

Junior joined the United States Air Force in January of 1948, and officially retired as a Senior Master Sergeant from the Niagara Falls Air Force Bace 914th Wing in 1985. He was a lifetime member of the V.F.W. and the American Legion. He liked to visit museums, do woodworking, and spend time traveling. Junior was a long-time member of St. Stephen’s Episcopal Church.

Junior is survived by his wife, Carmen; his children, Michelle (Andy) Stephens, Laurie Hatmaker, Mary Anne (Marty) James, Julie Carlson, Joe (Nicole) Carlson, Jim (Tracey) Carlson; 3 step-children, Lee Ann (Kam) Jebriel, Carl (Patricia) Washburn and Wendy (Robert) Senter; 28 grandchildren and 36 great grandchildren; and 3 siblings, Bonnie (Don) Slinker, Phillip (Glenda) Carlson and Diana (Karl) Chase.

He was predeceased by his first wife, Mary; two sons, Mike (Betty Lou) Carlson, and John (Doris) Carlson; two sisters, Delores “Boots” (Bill) Feight and Gretta (James) Gram.

Family will receive friends at the Guenther Funeral Home, Inc. 1303 East State Street, Olean, Friday, October 18, 2024 from 11am-1pm with funeral service to follow at 1 pm. Rev. Kim Rossi of St. Stephen’s Episcopal Church will officiate. Military honors will be accorded.

In lieu of flowers, the family would like memorials to go to, The Watson Ministry Center Building Fund, C/O of St. Stephen’s Episcopal Church, P.O. Box 446, Olean, NY 14760 Contributions are tax deductible.

A special thank you to daughter in law’s, Tracey Carlson and Nichole Carlson, who took such excellent care of Junior during his illness.
