FRANKLINVILLE — The Town of Franklinville recently celebrated its Bicentennial and the Village of Franklinville marked its Sesquicentennial.
The joint event was hosted Sunday, Sept. 22, by Mayor Ashley Schumaker and Town Supervisor Catie Campbell, with events centered on the Town Square park area.
Proclamations from U.S. Rep. Nick Langworthy, State Sen. George Borrello and Assemblyman Joseph Giglio were read congratulating the town on its 200th birthday since it was formed and the village, which marked 150 years.
The Ischua Valley Historical Society hosted open houses at the Miner’s Cabin and their museum at 3 Park Square.
The event was well attended by community members and local political leaders including:
Borello of the 57th Senate District), Cattaraugus County Legislators Mike Brisky and Ginger Schroder, Undersheriff Nate Root, 148th Assembly District candidate Joe Sempolinski, an aide from Langworthy’s office and Cattaraugus County Republican Party Chairman Mark Heberling.
A time capsule was presented by Deputy Village Clerk Sage Blatner. It is to be opened in 25 years with greetings to future community members and elected officials.
A parade marked the town’s bicentennial and the village’s sesquicentennial.
There was live music in the Town Square by Roger Pettengill, Cadiz Junction and The ChillBillys.

The Franklinville Fire Department marked the celebrations by hosting a chicken barbecue.
