Swimming:
Although Allegany-Limestone/Ellicottville won 8 of the 12 events to Salamanca’s 4 the Warriors battled for the 2,3,4 and 5th places and came out ahead 97-81. Salamanca’s depth and numbers were the key to victory. Mikaela Tennity was once again a double winner for Salamanca taking the 200 free and
the 100 breast stroke. Coach Lafferty-John had some high praise for her team “We had some great races tonight and some really challenges for some of our first time rookies. McKenna McCormick and Ava Chriss (both rookies 7th grades on varsity) collectively grabbed 7 points for us. McCormick swam both distance freestyles her first time ever and it mattered. Chriss is quickly breaking into the swim scene with a versatile collection of strokes and she is not afraid to race. One of the other standout performances tonight was Kynleigh Wass in the 100 free (1st) and 50 free (2nd) and she was right there with Lauren Ball is a standout swimmer. She had 2 PRs tonight and Jayla Ground followed with 3 in the
100 back, 100 free and 50 back. Her attitude this season has been incredible. We had girls who fought some sickness and choose to stay to contribute to this swim (Ella Martens, Juliana Smith). Gabby Bly had a PR in the 100 breast, Arianna Acosta in the 50 free, and Lauren John 50 free.”
Salamanca next plays host to Wellsville on Saturday at 11 AM. “Our team captains (Tennity, Charli Ross and Gabby Bly) are leading this team with some high expectations and I think its going to be huge for us.”
