LITTLE VALLEY — Lots of new and some tried and true highlighted the 181st annual Cattaraugus County Fair which wrapped up on Saturday.

The fair usually runs for 7 days, but this year, an 8th day was added, running Saturday, July 27 through Saturday, Aug. 3, said Nell Fellows, secretary of the Cattaraugus County Agricultural Society, which owns the fairgrounds.

In addition, the County Fair welcomed a new midway company, Amusements of America. Clean, family friendly rides were featured with rides for young and young at heart, Fellows said.

The schedule of animal shows was adjusted to incorporate the additional day of the fair.

Many exhibitors really liked the new schedule, saying it was a welcome change, Fellows said.

The annual 4-H Market Sale on Saturday also started a couple of hours earlier encouraging those who attended to stay at the fair a little longer.

(Rick Miller/Olean Star) Cattaraugus County Fair officials said attendance at the 181st fair last week in Little Valley was on par with other recent county fairs.

Good weather prevailed throughout the week. Storm clouds were most prevalent at the end of the week, but the grandstand motorsports shows went on as scheduled.

There were many animal entries, with the cattle barns needing additional stalls to accommodate all the livestock. Domestic entries were up as well, with many first timers taking advantage of the new on-line entry system, Fellows said.

Gate numbers are still being calculated, but the Cattaraugus County Agricultural Society is sure numbers of patrons will be on par with previous years, she said.

Plans are already being made for next year’s fair July 26 through Aug. 2, 2025.
