The weather for Saturday’s Float the Allegheny kayak and canoe paddle from the Steam Valley Road launch in Portville to an afterparty in Franchot Park looks to be better — and drier — than last year’s.
Adam Jester, interim director of the Greater Olean Area Chamber of Commerce, the sponsor, said about 40 reservations had been confirmed by Thursday.
Late registrations will be taken at the Chamber offices until 5 p.m. Friday. Last-minute registrations can be made beginning at 10 a.m. at the Portville launch. The cost is $20 per person and includes food and beverage tickets to the afterparty, which is also open to the public. A special dry bag is also included.
If you don’t have a kayak, A-1 Rent All and Sales are offering rentals by calling (716) 373-7368. Last minute rentals at the site may also be available.
Plan ahead if you need to shuttle a vehicle to the take-out at Franchot Park. Shuttle service for an extra fee is available from Scoop Transportation by calling (716) 790-3483.
Participating kayaks and canoes will put in at the Steam Valley launch site between 11 a.m. and noon. The float route is just under five miles. The after party will be from 2-5 p.m.
At the launch site, the Sweet Ride food truck will have hot coffee and donuts for sale. The food truck will be at the take-out at Franchot Park as well. Also, Four Mile Brewing will be there, as well as Zet’s Italian with Bruschetta chicken wraps and Italian sausage sliders.
The Twin Tiers Disc Golf Club will also be at the afterparty to play a round or two with participants and the public.
Two Guys Drinking Beer will provide music and local vendors will be selling a range of products. For registration by 5 p.m. Friday, contact the Chamber at (716) 372-4433 or go online to https://shop.oleanny.com and click shop and Chamber events, or email events@oleanny.com.
