Boys Indoor Track and Field
In the Salamanca boys’ indoor track and field team’s first meet since mid-December, the Warriors finished with 11 personal bests and five top ten SHS additions.
Junior captain Jackson Oram was the first Salamanca athlete to take to the track. He competed in the 55m hurdles with little preparation this week. It has been two years since he competed in this race. Oram bettered his time by half a second and moved to the No. 3 spot on the school’s top ten. He would also finish the day with his best in long jump, a 5 1/2 inch improvement.
“He is such a coachable young man, always listening to his coaches’ critiques and modifying his attempts,” said Salamanca head coach Michelle Hill.
One of the highlights of the day was sophomore Jaiden Peter’s first varsity event. He sprinted his way to the No. 10 spot on the top ten in the 55m dash.
“The entire team was excited for his performance,” said Hill. “With some continued block work, we cannot wait to see the progress he makes in this event.”
Senior captain Dakota Colts ran the 55m for the first time this season, taking half a second off his time and he moved to the No. 6 spot on our top ten. Payton Bigler and George Parsons ran for PRs in the 1,000m. Preston Smith also had a PR in the 1600, with Denver Parsons running it for the first time, setting his personal best. Freshman Kyle Dibble ran the 600m for the first time, which is truly a tough event. He ran his way to a No. 8 spot on the schools’ top ten. Jayden Romero ran the 300m dash for the first time ever, which was good enough for a No. 8 top ten spot. Knox Johnson continues to progress in triple jump, improving almost a foot. His brother Brock Johnson bettered his shot put by almost three feet.
“These athletes have been so supportive of one another from cheering each other on, to peer coaching and helping with anything from getting ice or getting teammates to their events,” said Hill. We will be back to Houghton in a week for a very competitive varsity select meet and we are excited to watch their continued progress.”
Girls Indoor Track and Field
On Saturday, Jamila Nelthrope led the way for the Lady Warriors Indoor Track and Field team in their Dual Meet Divisional meet with two new School records.
Nelthrope posted a 7.69 in the 55 meters breaking her previous record of 7.78. She also ran a 44.10 in the 300 meters, again breaking her previous school record of 44.50. She took first place in both of those events and also took a third in the pole vault clearing 7-0′.
“Jamila has tremendous potential and we are beginning to see her understand the importance of all the little things we do to help with form and starts and she applied that today in her improved efforts,” said Salamanca head coach Laurie Lafferty-John.
Ryanna Brady also posted two first place finishes today in the 1500 and 3000 meters. Even though the times were not her best, they were impressively consistent and in her top two career performances in the indoor season.
Isabella Milks had an impressive day in the high jump. She tied her school record clearing 5′ 00″, earning a first place finish, and had three great attempts at 5-2. She also jumped 14-06 in long with a fourth place and 32-9 in the triple jump taking second place.
Aubrey Domres, the teams top thrower, posted a 28-10 in the weighted throw for fifth place and 26-6 for shot taking third.
Gabriella Bly improved over four seconds in the 600 (1:57.31) which now sets her at No. 3 on the All Time Top 10. That time was good enough for seventh place and she grabbed a third place in the 1000 running her best time of the season.
Ariyanah Bluntt and Summer Downey both competed in the triple jump for the first time in their careers, posting 28-01 and 26-11, respectively, as both earned their way to the overall Top 10 in the third and fourth positions.
Kylynne Day is a sophomore, rookie thrower who is making a great first impression with her abilities. Her throw of 23-04.25 was good enough to move into the Top 10 at the No. 5 position for Salamanca and today it placed her eleventh. Her weighted throw was also a PR for her (20-11) and placed her 12th today.
Boston Haley is our only girl entered in the one mile walk and took eighth place today. Corey Day also had her first meet of the career and posted a 1:15.3 in the 300. Jaelynn Cooper also posted a PR today in the 55 meters with 10.51.

Boys Wrestling
On Sunday, the Olean boys wrestling team faced a stiff day of competition only made worse by numerous wrestlers being out with injuries.
On a good note Jonathan Tidd, Caine Degolier, and Ryker Quattrone were all 5-1 on the day. Camren Driscoll at 108 was 4-2, but was moved around to get the more competitive matches. Olean’s next meet will be at home against Southwestern on Wednesday, Jan. 15, which will also be Senior Night.
