OLEAN, NY – In their season’s home-opener, the Olean girl’s basketball team fell to Cuba-Rushford’s third-quarter surge, ultimately losing to the Lady Rebels, 45-24.

Coming out the gates, the Lady Huskies’ offense were a step behind, falling behind by six going into the break. Despite keeping the gap to two-possessions throughout the first two quarters, Olean wouldn’t be able to stop an impending wave.

Lily Tompkins and Brynn Levery, who together scored seven points in the first half, would enter the third period dialed in. With Tompkins knocking down a pair of 3-pointers and Levery maneuvering close to the basket, the duo led a 27-4 charge that widened the gap on the scoreboard to 29 heading into the final quarter. Despite having their best scoring quarter late, the Lady Huskies couldn’t respond late.

Tompkins, who scored 12 points in the third quarter, finished with a team-high 16, while her counterpart Levery ended with 15, 11 of which she tallied during the run.

For Olean, Jourdin Bettle led the Lady Huskies with eight points. Alaina Hirliman had six points and Ava Finch had five.
