Eight fire companies help put out Salamanca fire on North Main Street

SALAMANCA – Eight Fire companies fought to contain a fire that started in the first floor of an  abandoned four-story building at 64 Main St., Salamanca Monday morning.

Cattaraugus County Emergency Services Director Chris Baker said the fire was reported at 8:30 a.m.
The City of Salamanca Fire Department requested mutual aid. Fire departments from the City of Olean, limestone, Allegany, Ellicottville, Seneca Nation and City of Bradford sent firefighters and equipment.

No one was injured, Baker told the Olean Star.

Salamanca Fire Chief Tom Sturdavent was in charged if the fire scene.
Ladder trucks from Salamanca, Olean and Allegany were at the fire scene. Two ladder truck hit the roof of the building with water from two sides.
Baker said firefighters were above to extinguish the fire that stretched from the first floor to the fourth floor.

Officials gave no immediate cause of the fire. The building adjoins the white Masonic Temple Building at the corner of Main Street and Wildwood Avenue.
Firefighters partially reopened the intersection about 11:30 a.m.
