The Portville Panthers built on a 27 -6 half-time lead as they cruised to a 46-20 season opening win over Gowanda/Pine Valley.  The Panthers used a strong balanced attack compiling 421 yards and 7 TD’s. Quarterback Eli Sleggs had an impressive day throwing the ball as he went 6-14 for 186 yards and 3 TD’s.  Aiden Defazio was his favorite target hauling in 4 balls for 137 yards and 2 TD’s.  Menki Muhyee caught the other for a 27 yard score and Max Deyoe caught 1 ball for 22 yards.

DeYoe lead the ground attach with 25 rushes while averaging over 10 yards a carry, 129 yards, and a score.  Three other Panthers added rushing scores; Adam Roe (8 Carries 53 yards), Breckham Hunt (3 Carries 31 yards) and Sleggs (4 carries 22 yards). 

On defense Defazio lead Portville with 7 tackles, 2 assists, a forced fumble, and two fumble recoveries. Hunt recorder 5 tackles and 2 assists and Landen Schappacher picked off two Gowanda/Pine Valley passes.

Portville’s next contest is Friday September 13th vs rival Salamanca at 7pm at Vets Park in Salamanca.

The Franklinville/Ellicottville Titans, in another game interrupted by the weather, took a 14-6 half-time lead into the postponement and finished it off the next day with a 35-14 win over Cleveland Hill.  Titan quarterback Isaac Towne hit three different receivers for touchdowns on his way to an 11-20 222 yard passing night which earned him a Connelly Cup Player of the Week honor.  Bretton Blecha hauled in 5 for 82 yards and a TD, Matthew Spittler caught 3 for 85 and a TD and Billy Stavinski had the third receiving TD and a 21 yarder.  Carter Smith led the ground attack racking up 60 yards on 13 carries including two rushing Td’s.  the Titans next game is Saturday as they take the Tapestry Charter school on the road.

In a game that started Friday and due to inclement weather was finished on Saturday, the Salamanca Warriors defeated Chautauqua Lake/Westfield/Brockton 38-14.  Salamanca started fast and hit big plays all game as Xavier Peters scored on two long runs or 45 and 56 yards while carrying the ball just 5 times for 129 yards.  Maddox Isaac led the Warriors passing attack as he hit three different receivers for touchdowns including three plays over 20 yards.  Corey Holleran led the receiving core with 3 receptions for 94 yards including a 73 yarder for a touchdown. While Quinten Brown (2 Receptions, 87 yards, 86 for a TD) and Avery Brown 1 reception for 24 yards and a TD. 

Holleran lead the defense as well picking up 6 tackle sand 2 assists while adding an interception.  Peters contributed 5 tackles and Kyle Lecceardone added 4 tackles as well as an interception of his own. 

The Cattaraugus Little Valley Timberwolves ran into the hot hand of Eden/North Collins quarterback Brady Waring and dropped a 24-44 contest at home.  Waring threw for 363 yards on 16-20 passing including 5 touchdowns.   The Timberwolves made a strong effort in the ground game as they were lead by Dylan Swanson (14 carries – 80 yards), D.J. Szata (14 carries- 69 yards) and Nyquon Boswell (7 carries-51 yards). Catt/LV quarterback Szata also completed 7 of 9 passes for 87 yards.  The Timberwolves will try to even their record next week as they travel to Gowanda.

Rounding out the local action, the Olean Huskies opened their season with a convincing 32-7 win over visiting Albion and travel to Springville to take on the Griffins on Thursday night.
