ANGELICA — Sculptor Eric Jones has sculpted in sand the now iconic image of former President Donald Trump pumping his fist in the air moments after an assassination attempt in Butler, Pa. last Saturday. The sand sculpture weighs 6 tons and took Jones three days to complete at the Allegany County Fair. It will be on display there until closing on Saturday. Jones, a Food Network champion, said he was emotionally  motivated by the photograph captured by AP photographer Evan Vucci “to capture the solidarity of the American spirit and “wanted to do it in Angelica.”

In a prepared statement, Jones said, “This isn’t a sculpture that has a political undertone. As I researched the many assassination attempts on political figures and presidents over the years, the American public answered with being patriotic. Regardless of what you believe about Trump, the fist-pump was a symbol of the American spirit.

He added: “This sculpture also memorializes Corey Comperatore, the firefighter from nearby Butler, Pa., who died at the rally protecting his family from gun fire.”
