LITTLE VALLEY — More than 200 Little Valley Central School alumni and guests attended the annual Alumni Banquet Saturday, June 29, at the Corporate Building on the Cattaraugus County Fairgrounds.
President Kevin Andrew opened the business meeting thanking the board, volunteers and all attending for continuing to support the legacy of LVCS. The Little Valley and Cattaraugus school districts voted to merge in 1999.
Mark Memmott, class of ’76, gave the Memmott-Langhans scholarship report. Four Cattaraugus-Little Valley graduates each received $2,000 awards. They are Michael Brewer, Lilly Goodman, Dereck Opferbeck and Adeline Wright.
He also gave the report on the Little Valley Fund, a fund that was created five years ago to support projects and activities benefitting the village and town.
In addition, Memmott presented President Andrew with a Cross pen, a gift of appreciation from the membership to recognize his decades of service to this organization. Denise Beeles Johnson, Class of ’80, also presented him with a lovely shadow box of memories.
Brad Lockwood, Class of ’88, spoke briefly on the upcoming “Village of Knives” celebration to be held July 12-14 at the Cattaraugus County Fairgrounds. He predicts a large number of collectors and dealers will attend. Many activities are planned for the weekend event.
A roll call of members was read. Art Asquith, Class of 1946, was the most senior member attending.
The Class of 1964 was presented with a gift for having the most members in attendance. Diane Orr Shemtov spoke on behalf of the honored 50 year Class of 1974. She shared some senior year memories and said how much fun reconnecting with old friends has been.
Goode’s Restaurant of Gowanda catered the event.
Next year’s celebration will be held June 28, 2025.
