ALLEGANY — They began setting up amusement rides on Tuesday for this year’s Allegany Old Home Days that runs from Thursday through Saturday.
A dozen rides split between children and adults — including a ferris wheel — were being set up at Firemen’s Park on Tuesday. Old Home Days is sponsored by the Allegany Fire Department.
“Thanks to the community’s strong support last year, we are back this year and continue to strive to get back to a larger carnival,” carnival committee chairman Matt Rado said Tuesday. “We think we’ve got a great carnival. It’s very clean, very professional. We continue to grow back to the size we were before Covid.”
There was a three-year time span from 2020 to 2022 when Covid prevented the carnival from becoming a reality. No carnival could be located in 2022.
Rado said pre-sale tickets have been going well. At 6 p.m. Wednesday, the price for 12 tickets goes from $20 to $30. Pre-sale ride tickets are available from members of the Allegany Fire Department and the Allegany Municipal Building, Corner of First and Maple, Studio 4 East, Hometown Bar and Grill and Citizen Printing House.
Each ride costs one ticket. There are also wristband sales for $25 for unlimited rides from 1-5 p.m. Saturday. The carnival is open until 11 p.m. Thursday and midnight Friday and Saturday.
The carnival opens Thursday at 6 p.m., and at 6:30 p.m. the water fights among several fire companies will get underway in front of the fire station on First Street.
The band “Sticktights” will begin performing at 7 o’clock
The carnival closes at 11 o’clock that night.
On Friday the carnival is open from 6 p.m. to midnight. At 5:30, line-up for the Children’s Parade begins in the Post Office parking lot. The parade starts at 6 o’clock from the Post Office and down Main Street to the Fire Hall where refreshments will be served.
No gas powered vehicles are allowed in the parade. Kids are welcomed to dress up. Contact Danielle at (716) 378-5953 with any questions.
The fire department’s food concession includes hot dogs, Italian sausage and French fries. There are also refreshments and a beer tent.
