LITTLE VALLEY — Cattaraugus County has only one county-wide election contest this year — for county clerk.

Darrell Klute, the incumbent county clerk, is running on the Republican and Conservative party lines.

He is being challenged by Kristin Marie Colburn, a Hinsdale Democrat who is running on the Working Families party line.

Polls are open Tuesday from 6 a.m. to 9 p.m. in all 55 election districts county. The Cattaraugus County Board of Elections said 3,757 people took advantage of early voting hours this year at the Biard of Elections in Little Valley and Jamestown Community College in Olean. That is about 1,000 more than the last gubnatorial election, but fewer than the presidential election in 2024.

In another countywide election, Darryl Bloom, the county public defender, is running unopposed for a county judge vacancy on the Republican and Conservatives lines. Family Court Judge Moses Mark Howden is retiring.

Also running unopposed on the Republican and Conservative tickets is longtime Coroner Cleon W. Easton.

District 2 County Legislator Brenda Hanson, R-Delevan, is seeking re-election to a one-year term in November on the Republican and Conservative lines. She was appointed earlier this year to fill the vacancy created when Michael Briskey was named deputy county administrator. She is unopposed.

Three Olean Common Council seats are on the ballot — Wards 1, 3 and 5.

In Ward 1, incumbent Lawrence “JR” Bennion, a Republican serving as council president, is unopposed on the Republican and Conservative lines.

In Ward 3, where incumbent Jennifer Forney, a Republican, is not seeking re-election, Democrat Gloria Rosenthal, who is also on the Common Sense Party Line, is running against Republican Balazs Busnyak.

In Ward 5, where incumbent Democrat John Crawford is not seeking re-election, Ann Marie Sitter-Tompkins is running unopposed on the Democratic and Working Families party lines.

SALAMANCA CITY voters will find two full slates of  candidates from mayor to five councilmen. Mayor Sandra Magiera, who is on the Democrat and Citizens Choice lines, is being challenged by a former mayor, Michael “Smitty” Smith, who leads a full slate of councilman candidates on the Salamanca Proud line. In Wards 3 and 3 there are three-way races for the Common Council.

In Ward 1, where Councilman John Hill did not seek re-election, Maureen Puval is running on the Republican  and Citizens Choice parties, and Joanne Hoag is running under the Salamanca Proud banner.

In Ward 2, incumbent Kyle Johnson is running on the Democrat and Citizens Choice parties, and Brian Murphy is running on the Salamanca proud Party.

In Ward 3, Republican incumbent Barry Smith is running against Matthew Quigley on the Ward 3 Party line and Dylan Hackett of the Salamanca Proud Party.

Ward 4 Democrat incumbent Michael Reed is being challenged by Kyle Waite of the Good Direction Party and Lee DeBoy of the Salamanca Proud Party.

In Ward 5, incumbent Democrat Paul Myers, who is also running on the Citizens Choice Party line, faces Zachary Taylor of the Salamanca Proud Party.

SUPERVISOR CANDIDATES will be on the ballot in nine Cattaraugus County towns. Seven of them are incumbents seeking re-election. None of the supervisor candidates are opposed.

There are two county officials running as supervisor candidates, Real Property Tax Services Director Daniel Martonis, the incumbent who is running unopposed in Napoli, and Economic Development, Planning and Tourism Director Crystal Abers, who is running unopposed in Dayton to succeed Aaron Huber. Both supervisor candidates are Republicans.

Town candidates listed by the Cattaraugus County Board of Elections follow. Democrats are denoted with a D, Republicans with an R and Conservatives with a C. An x denotes an incumbent. There do not appear to be any contested town elections at this time.
