PANAMA, NY – Seeing the dam break twice, the Portville football team suffered another backslide as they fell to CSP 42-14.
Up against the fifth-best rushing team in Section VI, the Panthers struggled to contain the ground game, specifically against the Wolfpack’s hyper mobile quarterback, Gavin Burchanowski, who ended the day with 154 rushing yards and four touchdowns. Burchanowski and Co. showcased their offense early, finding a pair of first-quarter touchdowns, before punching in three more to start the second half.
The Panthers’ response fell well short, seeing lone touchdowns in the second and fourth quarter.
Portville’s Liam Taylor led the offense with 99 rushing yards on 30 carries, while Braxton Clark caught three receptions for 62 yards and a score. Liam Gadley also reached the endzone, scoring a rushing touchdown on one of his two carries.
With the loss, the Panthers fell to 3-2 overall and 1-2 in the Class C South standings, sitting at sixth overall.
Girl’s Soccer
Bradford 7, Punxsutawney 0
BRADFORD, PA – Seeing two Lady Owls record hat tricks, Bradford posted their eighth win of the season as they cruised past Punxsy.
Alyssa Mangold led the charge once again, finding the back of the net three times while also recording a pair of assists. Reese Rosendahl also punched in a trio of goals while Karissa Chamberlain scored once. Austin Douglass ended with two assists, followed by Alexis Kicior and Cami Sheeley with one a-piece.
Port United 3, Clarion 1
PORT ALLEGANY, PA – Returning to their home swamp, the Lady Gators dispatched the Bobcats with a lopsided victory.
Alayna Palmer carried the load on offense, scoring twice while tallying one assist as well. Kylee Pelchy scored Port’s final goal, also registering an assist alongside Alyssa Pelchy. Dana Clark had seven saves while tending the net.
Boys Soccer
Bradford 6, Punxsutawney 0
BRADFORD, PA – Evan Troisi’s offensive eruption helped propel the Owls to a blowout win over the Chucks.
Alongside Troisi’s three, Carson Miller, Jaron Lohrman and Porter Gilligan filled up the stat sheet, each scoring one goal.
Up next, Bradford travels to Brookville on Tuesday for a 5 p.m. showing.
Brookville 5, Port United 2
PORT ALLEGANY, PA – Despite finding an early lead, the Gators were unable to stop the Blue Raiders’ overwhelming response.
Port’s Kaiden Bartlett opened the scorebooks for the day, taking a direct kick from Mason Simes and punching in a goal in the first five minutes of play. However, then Brookville opened the floodgates, scoring five unanswered goals to build a comfortable cushion.
The Gators found the back of the net once more on the afternoon, seeing Holden Nance convert a penalty kick in the 77th minute.
In goal, Jimmy Sneed came away with 11 saves during the loss.
Jamestown 2, Olean 0
OLEAN, NY – The Huskies’ regular season struggles continue with an eighth loss in their last nine games, suffering their latest via a shutout defeat to the Red & Green.
Jamestown peppered the net for 20 shots through two halves, netting both of their goals in the second as they finally got past Alaina Hirliman.
At 3-9, Olean falls to dead last in the CCAA Division I standings with just three games left on the schedule, all of which are league opponents. First, on Tuesday, they will travel to see Falconer/CV/MG on Tuesday at 4:30 p.m. before hosting Southwestern the following Tuesday at 6 p.m. Finally, the Huskies’ end their regular season on Thursday, Oct. 15 in Fredonia at 4:30 p.m.
