THURSDAY ROUNDUP: Gators celebrate senior with dominating win over Huskies; Panthers soccer routs Cassadaga Valley

ALLEGANY, NY – On a night where they honored their large senior class, the Allegany-Limestone girl’s soccer team saw a scoring barrage carry them to their eleventh straight victory, winning 8-0 over Olean. 

Ahead of their rematch with the Huskies, the Gators recognized their 12 tenured leaders in front of their home crowd: Meagan Morgan, Cait Conroy, Cara Giannicchi, Peyton Truman, Molly John, Ember DeGroff, Faith Zwalsky, Ally Peters, Kendall Lemons, Anney Hemphill, Hailey Scott and Kai Wojewoda-Ko. 

“They bring the experience, having been in big games before. I think they also bring with them the traditions of the team and the character that we try to maintain year after year,” said Allegany-Limestone head coach Dale MacArthur. “And stability. Stability comes from experience. That’s the biggest thing that I see, the mental things that are every bit as important to skills on the field.” 

With their spirits high, the Gators proceeded to dominate their visitors. Setting the tone early, A-L punched in five unanswered goals in the first before drilling in three more for good measure in the second. Olean had no response. 

Seeing another win fall their way, the Gators improve to 11-1 overall with four games left in the regular season. The first of that final stretch will come on Tuesday, when they see Southwestern arrive on campus at 4:30 p.m. Olean, on the other hand, now sits at 3-8 overall with four games left on the docket as well. On Tuesday, they travel to see Falconer/CV/MG at 4:30 p.m.

Salamanca 7, Catt-Little Valley 1

SALAMANCA, NY – Seven different Warriors produced seven different goals as Salamanca tacked on their seventh win of the season.

Against the Timberwolves, the Warriors found the back of the net early, scoring three goals in the first seven minutes. They closed the half out with one more before clearing the day with three more in the second to emphatically win the day. 

Iliana Hostuttler, Addison Earley, Presleigh Jimerson, Brielle Massagli, Elizabeth Rozler, Molly Duhan and Arleigh Chudy all scored throughout the afternoon, with Hostuttler, Earley, Jimerson and Massagli also recording assists in the win alongside Ireland Fidurko and Myla Galante. In goal, Gwyn Emborksy came away with four saves. 

Volleyball

Bradford 3, Punxsutawney 0

PUNXSUTAWNEY, PA – The Lady Owls collected a second-consecutive win as they bested Punxsy on the road, winning 25-23, 25-24 and 25-6.

Haley Keane led the way with 13 kills and two blocks while Addison Rosendahl came away with three aces and a block. Aliyah Corignani moved the offense with 18 assists and two blocks in the win.

Otto-Eldred 3, Galeton 0 

DUKE CENTER, PA – The Lady Terrors picked up another North Tier League sweep, dominating Galeton 25-7, 25-14 and 25-13.

Rayel Hakes ended with 12 kills, four blocks and two digs while Ayla Van Scoter and Jahden Smith both tallied seven kills. Emma Button ran the floor with 26 assists alongside 12 digs in O-E’s eleventh win of the year.

Allegany-Limestone 3, Ellicottville 2

ALLEGANY, NY – After a three-game skid, the Gators returned to the win column with a five-set victory over Ellicottville.

Throughout the night, both teams traded blows. A-L took the first set 25-20 before the Eagles countered 25-19. The Gators struck back at 25-23 before Ellicottville forced an extra set at 25-23. In the fifth and final, A-L narrowly came out ahead 15-10. 

Boy’s Soccer

Portville 4, Cassadaga Valley 0

SINCLAIRVILLE, NY – The Panthers furthered their win streak to a fourth straight as they shut out the Cougars. 

Portville didn’t hesitate to crack open the action, seeing Garrett Reynolds notch the first goal of the day in just the third minute. Soon after, in the 12th minute, Vic Vena added to their lead, which ultimately grew to 4-0 before the half with back-to-back scores from Nick Edwards.

Holding a strong advantage and even stronger defense, the Panthers preserved their fifth win of the season. 

Colin German ended with two assists in the win, while Gabe Evans and Vic Vena both had one. 

Next, on Monday, Portville will return home for a meeting with Salamanca at 4:30 p.m.
