OLEAN — Liberty Renewables, the developer of a proposed 95 megawatt wind farm with 19 turbine sites across the towns of Allegany, Olean and Portville, will host a community meeting at Franchot Park Wednesday from 3-6 p.m.
The Hemlock Hollow Wind Farm has been in development since 2021. Construction is scheduled to start in 2028 and last into 2029. The wind farm hopes to begin operations in 2029, with a 25-year lifespan. The developer says it will power 17,000 homes.
A draft map of the wind farm shows 12 turbines up to 650 feet tall in Allegany, five in Olean and two in Portville. There are about 20 participating landowners including individuals and companies that own mining rights and lease to oil and gas producers.
It is one of the first alternative energy projects in the state to be co-located on active oil and gas infrastructure, thus bridging legacy and modern power infrastructure, the company notes.
New York City-based Liberty Renewables said in a promotion for the community meeting that tens of millions of dollars in community host agreement payments from the project would go to the towns, Cattaraugus County and school districts.
The company notes that credit for residential electricity users is available for the first 10 years of operation.
