The Olean Common Council has confirmed Mayor Amy B. Sherburne’s appointment of former City Attorney Bridget Marshall as city attorney.

Sherburne named the Randolph attorney to the vacancy created by the resignation of Michael Morgan, who the mayor had appointed in January.

The council confirmed Marshall at a special meeting Tuesday before regularly scheduled committee meetings.

Marshall, who was appointed in November 2024 by then-Mayor Bill Aiello, succeeded longtime City Attorney Jack Hart. She resigned at the end of Aiello’s term, leading to Sherburne’s appointment of Morgan almost nine months ago.

The new city attorney has a full plate as she returns to the office: The Village of Allegany and St. Bonaventure University are suing the city for what they consider improper sewage disposal charges and the city may be considering legal action over the condition of the city’s new splash pad that has yet to open.
