Viola Nolan Taggerty, Queen of Lillibridge Road
Portville- Viola Nolan Taggerty, of Portville, passed away at ECMC in Buffalo on Thursday (July 2, 2026), surrounded by her loving family. She was born in Port Alleghany, P.A., on April 8, 1935, the daughter of Ralph and Ethel (Mix) Nolan. Viola married Clair Taggerty after graduation.
Viola graduated from Port Allegany High School. She worked numerous jobs – a receptionist at WPIG, nurse’s aide at St. Francis Hospital, and especially loved working for the Newburgs at Spring Hill Dairy. Her home on Lillibridge Road was always open to everyone and anyone at any time. She took every opportunity she could to spend time with her family. Viola was a lifetime member of The Sacred Heart of Portville.
Viola is survived by daughters, Janet (Robert) Filips and Colleen (John Morton) Taggerty; grandchildren, Kaitlyn Taggerty, Zachary Taggerty, Jamie Burke, Dan Filips, Rhonda (Shawn) Callahan, Sonya Morse, and Steve (Julie) Chambers.
Viola was predeceased by her parents; husband, Clair Nolan; two sons, Steven Taggerty and William Taggerty and a brother, Tommy Nolan.
Family will receive friends from 4 to 7 p.m. Monday (July 6, 2026) at Guenther Funeral Home, Inc., 51 S. Main St., Portville. A funeral service with Fr. David Tourville presiding, will be held at 1p.m. Tuesday (July 7, 2026) in the funeral home, with burial to follow at Chestnut Hill Cemetery.
Funeral arrangements are under the direction of Guenther Funeral Home, 1303 W. State St., Olean.
