Little Genesee – Glenna Pounds, age 102, passed away at home with family at her side on Friday, June 26, 2026. Born December 1, 1923, in Olean, NY, to Glenn and Anna Ernestine (Peterson) Archibald. She was the youngest of 3 daughters.
Glenna graduated from Portville Central High School in 1942 and married Richard (Bud) N. Pounds of Bolivar in Portville on September 24, 1942. When her husband left for war, she attended welding school in Olean and then moved to Niagara Falls, where she worked for Bell Aircraft, building planes for the war effort.
Glenna left Bell Aircraft to travel around the U.S. with her husband, who was attending flight schools for piloting the B-17. When he returned home from POW camp in Barth, Germany, they moved to Little Genesee, where they built a home from the ground up and raised 5 children. She loved creating a home and being a Mom. She was a 68-year member of the Eastern Star Chapter 109, The Grange, the Garden Club, Bolivar Bowling League, a Girl Scout Leader, an avid gardener, bird watcher, made clothes for her children, taught adult sewing at Bolivar School, and volunteered at the Olean General Hospital Gift Shop. For 15 years, she assisted her husband at their Bolivar Magneto Company until retiring in 1999. She was known in her area for baking delicious cakes “from scratch” and beautifully decorating them for weddings, anniversaries, and birthdays. Throughout her life, she was available to help her family, friends, and neighbors.
Surviving Glenna are her 3 daughters, Molly Pounds Miller of Little Genesee, Ruth Ann Pounds of Wellsville, and Carol Pounds Wight of Vernon, NY; nephews Tim (Sharon) Pounds of Little Genesee, Doug and Brad Pounds of Florida; nieces Dawn (David) Brooks of Springville, and Kathy Dee Chaffee of Wellsville, NY; 12 grandchildren, 18 great-grandchildren, and 2 great-great-grandchildren
She was preceded in death by her husband, Richard; parents, Glenn and Anna; two sisters, Genevieve Archibald Chaffee and Glory Archibald Beldon; in–laws, Jesse Richard and Alzaida King Pounds; and two sons, Jeffrey L. Pounds and Gary N. Pounds, both of Little Genesee; and son-in-law John A (Carol) Wight of Vernon, NY.
As per Glenna’s wishes, funeral services will be private, with burial at Chestnut Hill Cemetery.
