ST. MARYS, PA – After suffering their first defeat of the summer on Thursday, the Bradford Legion Post 108 baseball team put their foot back on the gas, picking up two wins in a two-team double-header, downing Coudersport Legion Post 192, 9-6, and St. Marys Post 103, 5-1.
Earning ten days of rest due to weather and scheduling conflicts, Bradford was ready to get back to work as they retook the diamond, evident in their four runs in the opening frame. The hits came early, with Talan Reese and Max Gow rattling off a single and double before rounding home plate on doubles from Ben Woodhouse and Jay Parisella.
Although Coudersport responded with two in the same frame, Post 108 added two to their lead with a pair of retaliated runs in the fifth – Talan Reese (3-for-3, three runs) and Tarren Reese (1-for-3, two runs) scored on a Coudy error and Woodhouse (3-for-3, two runs, two RBI) single – before preserving their win with three more in the seventh.
“The first game went great. We executed great defense and a few key bunts to push runners across the plate,” said Post 108 head coach Jim Henry. “(At the plate) we collected 11 hits. Ben Woodhouse has been on a tear lately.”
In the second showing, Bradford’s offense lagged behind, but their defense carried more than its fair share. The effort was led by Parisella, who started on the mound and tallied nine strikeouts while holding St. Marys at bay. His lockdown holdout gave Bradford a window late, one they took advantage of by scoring three game-sealing runs. After a Talan Reese walk, Woodhouse (2-for-4, one run, one RBI) again cracked open the action with an RBI-double, followed by another walk, a Parisella (3-for-4) single and an Evan Whitmore two-run RBI-single.
“Parisella picked up right where he left off. He gave us six strong innings and then I went to Drayden Norton to close the game out,” said Henry. “All around today, I’m extremely happy with how these kids are playing. I’m loving how loose and free everyone is playing, capitalizing on opportunities and having fun.”
Sitting at 3-1, Bradford will return home to open the week with a Monday contest against DuBois at 6 p.m. They will stay at home to host Crosby Post 976 on Thursday before seeing DuBois again on the road for a Saturday matinee.
