ST. CATHARINES, ON — North of the border, the Olean Oilers put its offensive firepower on display, running up the score in a lopsided, 18-5 win over the Niagara Ironbacks.
Olean got out on the front foot early on, scoring four runs over the first three innings. A run apiece in the third and fourth halved the Oilers advantage but the momentum of the guests was only paused as they piled on three runs in the fifth to restore their cushion.
The Oilers then closed out the game by outscoring the Ironbacks 11-2 over the final three frames.
Jack Painter led the Olean offense, going 3-for-5 with three runs and an RBI. Brady Smith (3-for-5, 2 runs, RBI), Grant Fournier (2-for-4, 2 runs, RBI), Logan Koslin (2-for-3, 3 runs), Armanis Romero (2-for-3, 2 runs, 3 RBI), Darek Staudt (1-for-3, run, 3 RBI), Brian Fleming (1-for-4, 2 RBI) and Thomas Bates (2-for-5, RBI) all made contributions to the winning effort as well.
Carrick Ryan led the Oilers’ pitching unit with three strikeouts over 2.1 innings. Brendan Roche got the win for Olean, striking out one over 3.2 innings.
