OLEAN — April showers may bring May flowers, but in Olean, spring also signals the return of one of the community’s most cherished traditions: the annual Genesis House flower sale. Now underway, the 28th Annual Geranium Sale supports the vital work of Genesis House, a local homeless shelter dedicated to helping individuals and families transition toward stable housing.
For nearly three decades, residents, businesses, and organizations throughout the Greater Olean area have welcomed spring by purchasing vibrant geraniums and hanging baskets through the fundraiser. With proper care, the flowers provide colorful beauty throughout the season while supporting an important community mission.
Orders must be placed by Thursday, May 7, with flower pickup scheduled for Thursday, May 14, from 10 a.m. to 1 p.m. at Forness Park. Customers may choose from geraniums in 4½-inch pots for $7 each, available in red, white, pink, coral, and fuchsia, or from assorted hanging baskets for $35 each.
To make participation convenient, Genesis House volunteers will provide delivery service to numerous workplaces, schools, and community organizations across the region. Delivery locations include Allegany-Limestone Elementary School and Middle/High School, BOCES, Buffamante, Whipple, Buttafaro, PC, Cattaraugus County Building in Olean, Community Bank branches in Olean, Salamanca, and along Route 417, Creekside Chapel, Cutco locations, East View Elementary, Eaton Industries, Fox Financial, High Point Credit Union, Hinsdale Central School, InTandem locations on Constitution Avenue and 15th Street, Kabar Homer Street, Mazza Sheet Metal, Napoleon Engineering, Olean General Hospital, Olean High School, Olean Intermediate Middle School, Olean Medical Group, Olean YMCA, The Pines in Olean, Portville Central School, St. Bonaventure University facilities, SolEpoxy, St. Elizabeth Motherhouse, Southern Tier Catholic School, and Washington West Elementary.
