SALAMANCA, PA – Opening the second week of the season with back-to-back games, the Salamanca baseball team picked up their third win with a 11-7 victory over Pine Valley Central.
After a scoreless first frame, Clint Northrup and Nolan Seeley put themselves in scoring position with a single and double at the top of the second. Andrew McCormick then brought them both around home plate with a line drive double to center field.
Holding the Panthers at bay, Salamanca then added to their lead with two more runs in the fourth and five more in the fifth, ultimately preserving their lead for the impending six-run sixth inning from Pine Valley. Sealing the win, the Warriors added two more scores to their cushion with an RBI single from Seeley and a sacrifice grounder from Brandon Bartoszek in the bottom of the sixth.
Seeley led the Warriors at the plate, finishing a perfect 3-for-3 with four runs scored and two more batted in. Northrup ended 2-for-4 with three runs while McCormick’s 1-for-1 day in the batters’ box produced two RBIs. On the bump, McCormick also came away with eight strikeouts through 19 batters faced.
After a brief hiatus, Salamanca (3-1) will next see Cattaraugus-Little Valley on Thursday, April 16 at home. That game is slated for a 5 p.m. start.
