It is with heavy heart that we share the unexpected passing of our brother, Michael J. Chaffee, 69, of Olean at his home on March 13, 2026.

Michael attended Olean schools and spent his whole life in the Olean Community. He started his career at the Cattaraugus Co. Health Department as maintenance and groundskeeping. Michael then became self employed as a contractor and skilled bricklayer taking pride in his work and craftsmanship he brought to every project. He was widely known as a jack of all trades. Michael was always willing to lend a hand to anyone in need of help with a project or repair.

In his younger years, Michael was also a talented fast pitch baseball player, managing the Olean Royals for 20 years contributing as a pitcher and 2nd baseman in regional fast pitch tournament making sports pages of the Buffalo News.

Michael had a passion for collecting antiques and enjoyed garage sales searching for unique items with history and character. He had a deep appreciation and knowledge of antiques and enjoyed sharing that interest with others. Michael enjoyed life’s simple pleasures, sitting out at a fire, sharing a Bud Light with family and friends or playing cards with his nephews. He also had an uncommon love for scratch offs.
