DEPEW, NY – Keeping their season alive with a 3-1 win over East Aurora, the Olean volleyball team surpassed last year’s watermark as they earned a spot in the Section VI Class B1 championship.
Finishing the regular season at 12-5, the Huskies entered the postseason with the No. 2 seed. After quickly dispatching No. 7 Buffalo Academy of Science last Thursday, Olean then pulled a meeting with the sixth seeded Blue Devils.
Taking to their home court ready to play, the Huskies tagged two early set wins over East Aurora at 25-15 and 25-11. Although the Blue Devils responded with a 25-21 win in the third, Olean closed out the night with a 25-17 win in the fourth set, securing their shot at a Section VI Championship.
Ava Moses led the Huskies with 12 kills and four aces while Alyx Henzel had five kills and five aces. Kaylin Kratts had three aces and nine digs alongside Ari Finch, who facilitated the offense with 26 assists, six aces and six digs.
Salamanca 3, Springville 2
SPRINGVILLE, NY – After being bounced from the postseason in the first round a season ago, the Warriors have come back with a vengeance, upsetting Springville in five sets as they punched their ticket to the Section VI Class B2 championships.
Salamanca took the match by set scores of 19-25, 25-18, 25-21, 22-25 and 15-11. Leading the way for the Warriors was Makenzie Crouse, who tallied a team-high 11 kills. Behind her, Ayla Newark had eight kills, Joey Jimerson provided 15 assists and Liana Jimerson dished out 14 assists.
Salamanca next takes on No. 3 Roy-Hart in the finals Wednesday. That game is slated for a 5:30 p.m. start and will be played at Cheektowaga High School.

Salamanca – Section VI Class C Championship
ELMA, NY – This past weekend, four Warrior runners took to the Elma Meadows Golf Course to compete in the Section VI Championship.
In the girl’s heat, Kaylin Lemon took 37th overall with a time of 22:51 while Lailee Pierce finished in 53rd at 24:00. For the boys, Aiden George came in 27th at 18:59, followed by Preston Smith in 54th at 20:23.
