OLEAN, NY — Enjoying a playoff christening from their home crowd, the Olean volleyball team opened their postseason with a clean sweep over Buffalo Academy of Science in the Section VI Class B1 quarterfinals.
Entering the playoffs at 12-5, the Huskies nabbed the second seed as they sat behind only Depew in the bracket, drawing seventh-seeded BuffSci (7-10) in the first glimpse of action. Olean opened the night by making quick work of their opponents, taking a set No. 1 victory at 25-9. Although BuffSci battled back in the next two, the Huskies continued to put their foot on the pedal, completing the sweep with 25-16 and 25-13 wins.
Alyx Henzel came away with a team-high seven kills and six digs for Olean, also recording seven aces in the win. Grace Giovine had four kills while Allison Anastasia had five kills and five digs. Ari Finch opened the postseason with 29 assists.
Up next, Olean faces No. 6 East Aurora on Monday, a game which will also be played on the Huskies’ home court at 6 p.m.
Portville 3, Newfane 0
PORTVILLE, NY — Beginning their march back to the Section VI Class C championships, the Panthers opened their 2025 playoffs with a clean sweep over Newfane, winning 25-6, 25-10 and 25-4.
Portville was led by Ali Haynes, who finished with 25 kills, eight digs and four blocks. Behind her, Addie Walker dished out 31 assists, Mia Rhinehart tallied 20 digs, Gaitley Maiolo had six kills and Leigha Stives finished with eight aces.
At No. 1 in the bracket, Portville now looks to defend their home court once again against No. 4 Chautauqua Lake on Monday. That game is slated to begin at 6 p.m.
Salamanca 3, Olmstead 0
BUFFALO, NY — The Salamanca girls volleyball team secured its second sweep of the postseason, toppling the No. 1 seed in Class B2 Olmstead in straight sets by scores of 25-12, 25-14 and 25-12.
Liana Jimerson had seven aces and nine assists for the Warriors while Acelynn Jacobs added eight aces.

BUFFALO, NY — For the first time in school history, the Warriors earned a spot on the Section VI Class C podium, taking second place overall in the Sectional meet.
Raleigh Hutchison led Salamanca with a second place finish in diving, earning a patch alongside her No. 5 spot on the Top 11 best scores in school history. Anna Martens also took fourth in the event while the 200 medley and 400 freestyle relay teams took second and third overall. Julianna Smith and Charli Ross both found fourth place finishes in the 200 IM and 100 breakstroke, respectively, while Kynleigh Wass and Ava Chriss each took fifth in the 200 freestyle and 100 yard butterfly.
