ALLEGANY, NY — Prior to a weather delay, which eventually resulted in the game being called early, the Allegany-Limestone and Portville girls soccer teams were trading offensive opportunities in search of a dramatic game-winner.
It was the Panthers that supplied the majority of pressure in the opening half, but ultimately they struggled to break through a staunch Gator defensive line. But in the 29th minute, Lauren Lyle found a way to circumvent that issue, as she rifled off a shot from about 30 yards that lobbed the A-L goalkeeper.
Portville took a 1-0 lead into halftime, but immediately after the break it was the hosts that were supplying the pressure. As a result, nine minutes into the half Kennedy Honeck rippled the back of the Panthers’ net with a beauty of a curled shot.
Unfortunately, due to a prolonged lightning delay, the sides were left to split the result 1-1.
