TUESDAY ROUNDUP: Bradford girls volleyball sweeps Punxsutawney; Port United girls soccer score win over Kane

PUNXSUTAWNEY, PA — The Bradford girls volleyball team took down Punxsutawney on the road in straight sets.

Haley Keane led the charge for the Owls, who secured the sweep with set scores of 25-8, 25-12 and 25-8, with 17 kills and two blocks on the night. Aliya Corgnani also had a big night, providing four kills, two blocks and 29 assists in the win. Addison Carter added eight kills for Bradford.

BOYS SOCCER

Kane 3, Port Allegany 0

PORT ALLEGANY, PA —  The Port United boys soccer team was left still in search of the first win of its season after suffering a shutout to Kane.

Josh Ayala was at the double for Kane, scoring in the 70th and 74th minutes. Tracy Johnson put the game to bed with Kane’s third goal just three minutes later.

Aiden Stuckey recorded seven saves for Port United.

GIRLS SOCCER

Port Allegany 4, Kane 1

PORT ALLEGANY, PA — Port United picked up its second win of the season with a convincing 4-1 victory over Kane.

Alyssa Pelchy and Kylee Pelchy were responsible for two goals apiece in the win. Alayna Palmer provided two assists on United goals, while Kailey Bartlett and Alyssa Pelchy were good for an assist each as well.

Hannah Taylor made 14 saves in net for Port.

GIRLS TENNIS

Salamanca 2, Dunkirk 2

SALAMANCA, NY — The Salamanca girls tennis team got its home campaign underway with a draw against Dunkirk in its first league match of the year.

For the Warriors, Emelia Prey and Betsy Leyva scored straight-set wins in first and second singles, respectively. Prey bounced back in the win column, personally, after her defeat in Frewsburg last week. Meanwhile, Leyva improved to 2-0 on the season.

Sage Huff and Morgan Palmer made their partnership debut against the Marauders at first doubles, but eventually fell in straight sets despite a hard-fought effort.

The tie was determined by a double forfeit at third doubles.

BOYS CROSS COUNTRY

Bradford 24, DuBois 31

Bradford 15, Brockway 50

BRADFORD, PA — Kadyn Tessena paced the Bradford boys cross country team as they defeated DuBois and Brockway at home.

Tessena took first overall with a time of 18:14.79 at the GGB Course. Jordan Hogue (4th, 18.59.99), Evan Toisi (5th, 19:10.4) and Xavier Frontino (6th, 19:27.2) helped see Bradford claim victory as well.

Also running for Bradford were, Nikolai Frontino (8th, 19:42.8) and Kamil Chen (11th, 20:13.18), Tony McDonald (15th, 21:03), Miles Hawk (16th, 21:13), Cavan Drake (20th, 21:49.8), Owen Tingley (26th, 23:00) and Langdon Krepp (23:26.8).

“It is always nice to win at home and this makes our record 5-0 for the season,” Bradford boys cross country coach Tom Tessena said. “We had a very hard meet last Saturday and it’s tough to run on Tuesday after a Saturday meet. … Our sophomores, Jordan Hogue, Xavier Frontino and Nikolai Frontino are doing well in the top five but they have to get better as well. It’s fun to see these guys start really pushing themselves. I think we can make some serious gains this season.”
