BOYS BASKETBALL
Olean 61, Southwestern 49
OLEAN, NY — Joe Mest’s excellent night shooting the ball highlighted the third consecutive win for the Olean boys basketball team as it downed Southwestern in its penultimate CCAA Div. I game of the season.
The Huskies trailed for just one quarter of the game before their offense, led by a game-high 19 points off five 3-pointers from Mest, took control of the affair.
But he was not the only Olean player that saw a fair amount of success guiding the ball through the hoop. Dominic Giovine hit seven shots from the floor on his way to a 15-point outing and Luca Quinn put together a well-rounded 11-point display behind Mest.
Another significant factor of the game was Caedyn Tingley’s long awaited return to action after suffering a concussion earlier in the season. He had five points in his return.
Southwestern’s Chase Hartnett tied Mest’s game-high tally as he led the Trojans with 19 points.
The win moved the Huskies into second in its league standings after Allegany-Limestone fell to leaders Salamanca on the night.

Frewsburg 60, Portville 57, OT
FREWSBURG, NY — Despite forcing overtime with a 13-9 run in the fourth quarter, the Panthers couldn’t complete their comeback, falling to the Bears in overtime.
Through three quarters, Portville found themselves within reach of the lead but never managed to grab a hold of it. However, in the final period of regulation, the Panthers were able to outscore Frewsburg with solid work at the free throw line – Portville hit six of their eight shots at the charity stripe – knotting the game at 54 and forcing an extra five minutes of play.
Once there, the Panthers’ offense ran cold, hitting just one field goal and going 1-for-4 at the line.
Aidan DeFazio led Portville with 23 points, followed by the Carter brothers, Peyton and Braeden, with 12 each.
This loss, which comes amidst a three-game road trip, drops Portville to 3-12 on the year. The Panthers have just three games left on their schedule, starting with a road game against Ellicottville tomorrow. Portville will then return home for their final two games against Silver Creek on Tuesday and their season finale against the Eagles on Thursday.

Bradford 33, Brookville 30, OT
BROOKVILLE, PA — With a clutch shot from one of their reserves, Bradford was able to end their week on a high note, beating the Lady Blue Raiders in overtime on their home court.

Having little time to set up a play Bradford rotated the ball around the perimeter, eventually finding Maranda Davis who knocked down a contested triple to force overtime.
