Allegany, NY Edith M. Outman, 99, of Allegany, passed away peacefully into the arms of the Lord on Sunday (February 2, 2025) at The Pines Healthcare and Rehabilitation Center in Olean.
Born October 6, 1925 in Kane, PA, she was the daughter of Albert F. and Adah Jeffords Ewing. On December 6, 1942 she married Ronald M. Outman who predeceased her May 7, 1988.
After enjoying raising her family, Edith worked many years as a waitress for the former Castle Restaurant. At home, she kept busy baking, cooking, crocheting, and knitting. She loved watching westerns, doing crosswords, and playing word games on her iPad. She most enjoyed spending time with her grandchildren and playing the loving role of “Granny” to them.
She leaves behind 4 of her 7 children, Sandra (Greg) )Pearl of Allegany, Kathy (Ray) Johnson of Allegany, Chuck (Suzanne) Outman of Gaithersburg, MD, and Diana “DeeDee” (Tim) Thompson of Edinboro, PA, many loving grandchildren, including a special granddaughter, Marie Whitney Kowalick who helped care for her; many great-grandchildren, and great-great-grandchildren; 2 daughters-in-law, Sue Outman and Kathleen Outman, and several nieces and nephews.
In addition to her husband Ron, she was predeceased by 3 sons David Outman, Ken Outman and Tim Outman, 2 sisters, and 5 brothers.
The family invites friends to a visitation only on Saturday (February 8, 2025) from 1-3pm at the Casey, Halwig & Hartle Funeral Home, 3128 W. State Rd,. Olean.
A memorial service for family and friends will be held in the Spring at a date to be announced. Burial will be in Five Mile Cemetery, Allegany. Memorials may be made to Joy Community Church, PO Box 263, Machias, NY 14101, or to a charity of the donor’s choice.
