PORTVILLE — The Portville boys basketball team managed to keep pace with Frewsburg through two quarters, but once its offense went cold, it was the latter that was able to walk away with a 57-41 win.

The Panthers led the Bears 27-24 at the halftime break as Braeden Carter took the scoring baton from Aidan DeFazio for the night. Carter had 11 of his team-high 14 points in the first half as DeFazio struggled, finishing without a field goal in the second half. But it was not just him, the well of offense for all of the Panthers dried up after the intermission as they scored a combined 14 points between the third and fourth frames. Meanwhile, Frewsburg turned their scoring up a notch and took advantage of the situation at hand.

Portville recorded its first win of the season last time out against Cassadaga Valley, but returned to the loss column due to its second-half struggles.
